Inspirational Quotes & Stories about
Helping To Make the World a Better Place
I remember at the beginning of my business career, praying to God to
allow me to become a great business leader. That way, I too could create
a great number of jobs and lead a great number of people. At the age of
30, I had completed my college degree, had gotten my MBA, and had worked
in the family business for a few years. I had completed the plan the
world and my family and I set up for me. I had done everything right.
Yet I still felt that I was not in or heading to a satisfying place. How
could I be doing everything right if I was not comfortable or at peace
with where I was? It just did not make any sense! How could I not be in
the "right" or "good" place if I was taking the "right" path?
Soon after my 30th birthday, I started to become very concerned with my
progress. Although I had everything that a 30-year-old could possibly
want, I was still dissatisfied, and my idea of greatness, of making a
difference, was not materializing. I was upset at my lack of progress.
Internally I blamed my uncle for not making "it" happen for me. I began
to wonder if anything that I was doing was making a difference.

My friend, you touch the world on a much deeper level than you currently
perceive. Do not concern yourself with the number of people you believe
you need to lead or serve at one time to make a difference. For
knowingly or not, you change the world with every interaction you have
with a fellow brother or sister. Lead by example, it is truly that
simple. Offer love and you will find your world more loving. Serve the
person in front of you and you will find the world a more caring and
hopeful place. Smile and laugh with the person you interact with and you
will experience a happier and more peaceful world. Do whatever brings
you joy, and the same world that you once cried in, you will now smile
and dance in.

"We all have so many possible occasions for loving and yet there is so
little demonstrated love in the world. People are dying alone, crying
alone. Children are being abused and elderly people are spending their
final days without tenderness and love. In a world where there is such
an obvious need for demonstrated love, it is well to realize the
enormous power we do have to help and heal people in our lives with
nothing more complicated than an outstretched hand or a warm hug. Day's
end is a good time to reflect on what you have done to make the world a
better, more caring and loving place. If nothing springs to mind night
after night, this can also be an excellent time to consider how you can
change the world for the better. You need not perform monumental acts,
but act on the simple things which are easily accomplished: the phone
call you have not made, the note you have put off writing, the kindness
you have failed to acknowledge. When it comes to giving love, the
opportunities are unlimited and we are all gifted."

One at a Time
"A friend of ours
was walking down a deserted Mexican beach at sunset. As he walked along,
he began to see another man in the distance. As he grew nearer, he
noticed that the local native kept leaning down, picking something up
and throwing it out into the water. Time and again, he kept hurling
things out into the ocean. As our friend approached even closer, he
noticed that the man was picking up starfish that had been washed up on
the beach and, one at a time, he was throwing them back into the water.
Our friend was puzzled. He approached the man and said "Good evening,
friend. I was wondering what you are doing."
"I'm throwing these
starfish back into the ocean. You see, it's low tide right now and all
of these starfish have been washed up onto the shore. If I don't throw
them back into the sea, they'll die up here from lack of oxygen."
"I understand," my
friend replied, "but there must be thousands of starfish on this beach.
You can't possibly get to all of them. There are simply too many. And
don't you realize this is probably happening on hundreds of beaches all
up and down this coast ? Can't you see that you can't possibly make a
difference?"
The local native
smiled, bent down and pick up yet another starfish, and as he threw it
back into the sea, he replied, "Made a difference to that one!"

Chicken Soup for the Soul

There exists a mass
thought form, a mass illusion that the future will be worse than the
present. Many spiritual people even share in this view and see the
future as grim. This is, in part, the reason why change is difficult for
most people. Because of this, many people sometimes feel safer and more
comfortable with the way things are. Those who participate in this
thought form usually prefer to leave things as they are and to hang on
to the old ways. People who are not open to change constrict their
boundaries, and their world becomes more and more narrow and limited.
They nitpick and focus on petty things. We have all met people who make
mountains out of molehills. These people's concerns seem so minor that
you almost stop taking them seriously. They behave this way because they
have stopped taking chances, stopped expanding their lives and stopped
growing. If someone has a very narrow view of the world, their ideas
that support this view will be more furiously defended because it is all
they believe they have. As they begin to expand their lives, so too will
their ideas expand and what once affected them will affect them less.

There are mass
thoughtforms that set up certain limits, boundaries, rules and
regulations that the ego says you must follow. Respect what people see
as real, but if it does not fit with what your heart and soul wish to
bring forth, experience and express, then follow your heart. Be sure to
ask yourself why you are doing what you are doing. The question of why
you choose to participate in an activity is actually more important to
answer and understand than the question of what activity you want to
participate in. Ask your soul if what you are currently engaging in is
something that you are doing for yourself and your highest good because
it brings you peace of mind and joy, or if it is something that you are
doing because your family expects you to fulfill their dreams. Are you
doing this to please them, to live up to an image of your peers, or to
receive recognition from society? Imagine, just for a moment, that you
had no images to fulfill, no pressure from your family, friends, peers
or society; what would you do with your life? What would bring you peace
of mind and joy? How could you best serve this world? My brother and
sister, the only limits that exist in this world are those you choose to
see and allow to be real within your mind.
