Inspirational Quotes About Happiness
The Snowflake that Changed a Life
I wondered how
he could be so upbeat after such a day, especially since this man
had a job that kept him on the road. He shared with the group that
on the way to the post office, he went into a coffee shop to get out
of the storm and cold for a while. While sitting in the coffee shop
he looked around and saw that most of the people there seemed
miserable with red noses, sniffling, coughing, bundled up in layers
of clothes. He too was feeling quite miserable. He too was
sniffling, tired and cold. Then he remembered that in the Course, it
stated that you are in control of your perceptions. Right then and
there, he decided to do something about his attitude.
In an instant, he decided that on the way to the post office, each
and every snowflake that hit his face would bring him joy; that
those snow flakes would no longer cause him grief, that they would
no longer make him curse the weather, or in any way negatively
affect his state of mind. So after finishing his coffee, off he went
walking to the post office.
As the first snowflakes hit his face, interestingly enough he also
experienced his first smirk of the day. And as the snowflakes
increased in volume, so too did his smirk, which turned into a
smile. Soon joy became an actual thought in his mind. He began to
sing "snow flakes are falling on my head" as he walked by so many
other souls who had chosen, in their own way, to see the day and
their walk as a hassle, inconvenience and a hazard. At first, he
sang the song in his mind, then just loud enough for himself to hear
it. As the snowflakes increased, so too did his volume. There he
was, singing joyfully as other pedestrians probably wondered what
this poor schizophrenic person was doing out in this kind of
weather. The snowflakes kept falling on his face and now that his
rendition of the song was a number one single in the charts of his
mind, he could sing it loud, proud and with joy.

How
would you like to give up your limited ego-self and replace it with
an infinite Godself? How would you like to give up nothing and get
everything in return? Would you like to give up judgment and receive
forgiveness, give up fear and receive love, give up separation and
receive unity, give up confusion and chaos and receive peace of mind
and joy? This is God's offer to you, but it is your choice through
free will whether to accept it or not. God offered you this when you
were created. It is your inheritance. It is your essence. It is your
truth. There is only one thing that you need to obtain everything.
You must be willing to offer it. Offer your brother or sister what
you want to experience. For you and your brother and sister are one,
and what you offer to them you gift yourself.

If there is
anything in your life, my friend, that is not bringing you joy
or peace, ask yourself why it is that you continue to support
that activity. Often you support it because you believe you
deserve or need to experience it. You currently have in your
life what you consciously or unconsciously want. But I offer you
that if you have the power to bring to your life things that do
not give you joy and peace, then know you also have to power to
bring to your life things that do offer you joy and peace. You
have an active imagination, and you have created what you want
and think you need to experience. So if you choose not to
experience joy in the moment, then go ahead, play in the mud all
you want. This much is true: you do have another choice. You can
choose joy and peace in every part of your life.
You can
choose joy and peace in every part of your life. Currently, you
believe that this is not possible, and thus you are not
experiencing it.
Friend,
have you ever taken five minutes to think about and write on a
piece of paper what it is that brings you joy and peace? Do you
know? You do have a mission to accomplish in this life, and what
you take joy in doing and what brings you peace are both
reminders of what that mission is. If you did not have a purpose
for being on Earth, then you would not be here. Remind yourself,
write down what it is you love and receive joy doing, and there
you will find a key to the purpose of your visit.
Make your
peace of mind and joy the goal in every situation possible. This
is achieved by reacting to a brother or sister with forgiveness,
love, peace and understanding, regardless of the illusion he or
she might be buying into at that time. When they try to pull you
into their illusions, remember that you are awake. Don't judge
your brother or sister, for he or she is simply asleep and
dreaming. Would you judge your child for screaming in his or her
sleep, or would you hold and comfort him or her? Would you scold
your child for kicking you while asleep, or would you simply
turn him around? Would you laugh at your child if he described
the monsters in his dream, or would you turn the light on and
let him see for himself that there are no such things? Do this,
and every time you succeed in remaining awake, congratulate
yourself, for you have chosen peace.

Peace of mind and joy are eternal, and what is eternal
cannot be temporary. Temporary peace of mind and joy
therefore do not exist. They are illusions created by the
ego to keep you from understanding and experiencing real
eternal peace of mind and joy.

My
friend, I am here to remind you that peace of mind, love and

because we are simply our Godselves and nothing else.

You will have
great difficulty achieving peace of mind and joy unless you respect
how others choose to live their lives. That means respecting
everyone's choices: the drug dealer on the street, the Pope, a
homeless person, the president of the United States.

My friend,
you touch the world on a much deeper level than you currently
perceive. Do not concern yourself with the number of people you
believe you need to lead or serve at one time to make a
difference. For knowingly or not, you change the world with
every interaction you have with a fellow brother or sister. Lead
by example, it is truly that simple. Offer love and you will
find your world more loving. Serve the person in front of you
and you will find the world a more caring and hopeful place.
Smile and laugh with the person you interact with and you will
experience a happier and more peaceful world. Do whatever brings
you joy, and the same world that you once cried in, you will now
smile and dance in.
I have
mentioned before that the world you see outside yourself is
simply a reflection of the world that you have shaped and
supported within. As the ego has trained your mind to react in a
judgmental and stressful manner, so too can you retrain your
mind to act and react with peace and joy. There are four steps
to retraining your mind in order to obtain and experience peace
and joy in every situation. They are:
Thought -
Align yourself with God and clarify the goal
Action -
Act with unconditional love
Faith -
Trust that the moment is perfect
In every
circumstance, in every instant, you have been gifted with the
free will to choose how you will react. You can choose to react
with worry, conflict, chaos and confusion, or you can choose to
react with trust, peace of mind, love and joy. Every instant,
regardless of its manifestation, allows you the opportunity to
begin anew, to experience life with peace of mind, love and joy.
The knowledge that you have the power to react to any
circumstance, any time, and in any way you desire, is the
beginning of understanding the absolute power of free will.
If you have
faith in your Godself's plan for your life, the effect will be
one of trust, peace of mind and joy. When you are experiencing
trust, peace of mind and joy, realize that you are having faith
in your Godself's plan for your life. When you are experiencing
worry, fear, disappointment, stress and despair, understand that
you are having faith in your ego-self's plan for your life.
Herein lies the one solution to the one problem.
Knowledge,
peace of mind and joy are available in every situation. You can
recognize this and obtain them through forgiveness or you can
focus on judgment, their opposite, and obtain its result. The
choice of which road you take and experience is yours. If you
have obtained peace of mind and joy in a situation,
congratulations-no further instruction is necessary. If you have
not obtained peace of mind and joy in a situation, then the
following 10 steps may be helpful to you in changing directions:
-
Accept
responsibility. Acknowledge to yourself that it is your
perception at this moment in time that is resulting in your
lack of peace.
-
Acknowledge that your lack of peace is not due to the
external environment but to your internal reaction to it.
In order to
experience peace of mind and joy in the present moment, trust and
have faith that you are always in the right place at the right time.

Imagine, if only for a moment, how much more peace you could
experience in your daily existence if you would only allow
yourself to see all experiences, both positive and negative,
regardless of lessons learned, as gifts. Imagine that instead of
constantly analyzing and judging your experiences, you smile and
are thankful for having them. My friend, listen carefully, for
the beginning of knowledge lies in this simple shift in
perception. Imagine a life where, instead of asking why or why
me you simply trust and say "thank you." How much more peace and
joy would this simple shift in perception bring to your life and
to those around you? My dear friend, heaven is indeed now
available on Earth.
Your purpose in life - your life's mission - will be something you love
and take great joy in. Joy is a natural expression of one who is
fulfilling his or her purpose. What offers you peace? What gives you
joy? What do you love to do? All these are clues to the destiny that
you're trying to reach, your life's mission. Believe in yourself and
trust that the universe is in your corner. Reach within, listen to the
whispers of your heart, and bring what is within into the world. This is
how you will begin to manifest and live your wishes and dreams.
